Specialty Counter Tops
Ohia Lehua (Metrosideros polymorphata) ( http://simplethinking.com/home/hawaii/ohia.shtml ) is the first tree to emerge after a lava flow in Hawaii. Thus it is tough, often twisted, and gnarly, yet handsome wood similar in strength and beauty to black walnut. Baron von App Woodworking crafts exquisite lattices using Ohia hardwood. The bathroom counter top seen below is a unique creation designed specifically for this room. The first layer is copper sheeting followed with an Ohia lattice ¾” thick by ¾” high. The intricate lattice is joined together as one piece and is an art work unto itself. On top is 3/8” tempered glass specifically cut for this counter top. The result is a unique and pleasing counter top not available in any commercial venue.
The second bathroom counter top was also specifically designed for this master bathroom. The copper sheeting has been treated with acid to achieve the magnificent coloration under the entire counter top. The lattice is Ohia ¾” thick by ¾” high. This lattice is also joined together as one piece as an art piece. The glass is 3/8” tempered glass specifically cut for this counter top. The result is a unusually pleasing countertop totally unique with exquisite coloration resulting from the copper patena generated by the acid bath. |
